Winamac was defeated 9-5 by Morgan Township in their final regular season game. The Lady Cherokees showed up ready to play and put a quick 4 runs on the board in the first inning. Winamac seemed up for the challenge as they placed 3 of their own on the board in the bottom half. Unfortunately, Morgan Township stayed hot, and the home team did not. At the end of 4 innings the Lady Warriors were down 9-4 and brought in freshman, Kelsey Crawford to pitch the final 3 innings.
Crawford was able to hold the Cherokees scoreless through the end of the game, giving up just one hit, one walk and striking out six, but the Lady Warriors were not able to make up the deficit offensively, despite 2 home runs from Crawford (3RBI).
Alexis Grove had the only other extra base hit with a double, and Rylie Maddox, Camryn Kopka (RBI) and Blake Bailey added singles.
Winamac will start HNAC tourney competition on Friday at the Winamac Town Park, playing the winner of the Caston/Culver game. Game time is 5:00 pm. The Lady Warriors are the defending champions and hope to repeat.
