Heather Kasten is joining the program in her first year as Winamac Volleyball’s Varsity Head Coach. Heather is a 2007 alum of Logansport High School. Being the volleyball fanatic she is, of course she played in and out of high school. Kasten was a setter for her freshman and sophomore seasons of ball and an all-around outside hitter for the remaining two high school seasons. She also played in the Logansport Volleyball Club from 2001 to 2007. These six years helped Heather prepare for her future in the sport after high school.
She has had several years of coaching starting during her senior season. During her final year, Heather had coached while her sister had played. After getting her degree at Purdue University in 2011, Kasten started her coaching career at Caston High School as the Junior Varsity Coach. After a year, Heather expanded her coaching experience by joining the Cass County Volleyball Club Coaching Staff created by Rod Nies. While coaching, Kasten led her 2016 team to a title of Shamrock Showdown Champions. Heather remained in the Jr. Varsity Coach until 2015 when she became the 8th Grade Coach at Pioneer Jr.-Sr. High School. As the coach at Pioneer, she obtained a Conference Champion title in 2015, and Cass County Champion titles in 2017 and 2018.
Moving to Winamac felt like the right thing to do for Coach Kasten. While being here, she wants to contribute to the community not only through her athletes, but through the conference as well. Heather has kindled strong connections through the vast supply of coaches and intends to continue building those relationships through her years at Winamac. Kasten is hitting the nail on the head for her motives. This season Heather wants a record over 500, a Conference title, and a Sectional title. “I believe these ladies are well capable to achieve these goals.” Her coaching philosophy is: I want to be able to create better adults, people, and better the community through athletic leadership. Coach Heather Kasten is extremely eager to be apart of our volleyball program and I can assure you that the athletes feel the same!
