Warriors News · North Judson loses second HNAC game to Lady Warriors

Winamac won their first conference game of the season last night at home against North Judson with scores of 19-25, 25-21. 25-13, 25-19. Winamac seniors Maggie Smith and Aubrey Gearhart were finally in the groove they’ve been looking for all season long. Communication was at an all time high and the Lady Warriors looked great defensively against a tough and scrappy North Judson team, whose only other HNAC loss came from the 7-0 Pioneer.

“It takes a long time to figure out how to win, and we had a lightbulb moment last night,” said Coach Kasten.

Several sophomores have seen an increase in playing time and stepped up to the plate in a big way, including Hailey Attinger and McKenzie Hinz

Smith ended the night with a whopping 20 kills and 15 digs, with sophomore McKenzie Hinz countering her in the rotation with a total of 9 kills and 3 blocks. Defensively the Lady Warriors had one of the best nights of the season with Kaya Campbell popping up 13 digs, Ella Gearhart adding 14 digs and Sydney Thompson with 12. The team’s overall serving was aggressive to say the least, including a 10 point run by Junior, Ella Gearhart, and a team total of 9 service aces for the night.  Aubrey Gearhart also dished out 29 assists over the 4 set match.

This is exactly the kind of situation the Lady Warriors like to see themselves in, moving toward next week’s sectional against Boone Grove at Boone Grove. With one more conference opponent, Culver, on the schedule and 4A Logansport, the Lady Warriors will have a full week of playing time before heading into sectionals.
